Upgrade FAQs

METNET-COMET will upgrade the Adobe Connect Pro Meeting service to version 7.5. We expect to switch to Connect version 7.5 on June 1, 2010. There are a few things that current account holders should know regarding this upgrade.

  • How to prepare for the upgrade
    • Review the content in your Content Library.
      • Decide if you want your content moved to the new Connect Service. Connect support staff have created a migration tool so that content can be moved from the old server to the new one.
      • Each user will need to contact METNET to indicate whether or not they wish to have their content migrated.
    • Prepare Content to be moved:
      • Delete any content that you no longer need.
      • Move meeting recordings from your meeting folder to your content folder.
      • Document permission settings for your content. If you have restricted access to only certain users, record the users so that you can reset the permissions in the new Connect system.
    • Groups – If you have created user groups, record the list of users in each group.
    • Report Data - Download report data (if you use it).
    • Important Note: Content such as presentations, published with Presenter or Captivate will still be viewable on the Connect 6 system until we shut it down later this year. However, we request that users contact us as soon as possible to request content migration.
  • How do I inform METNET whether or not I wish to have my content migrated?
    • Each account holder is asked to send an e-mail to let us know whether or not your content should be migrated. E-mail jwethere@metnet.edu.
    • Include the following information:
      • Subject: Connect Content Migration
      • Your name:
      • METNET Login ID:
      • College/School affiliation:
      • Yes, I would like my content migrated to Connect 7.5
        Or
No, I do not want my content migrated to Connect 7.5.

  • Will all of my content be migrated to the new server?
Most content can be migrated from an account holder’s content folder on request.

    • Content types that can’t be migrated:
      • Captivate files
      • Meeting rooms
      • Groups
      • Shared Content folders
      • Training courses, curricula, reports, and enrollees

    • Content types that can be migrated:
      • Adobe Presenter published presentations, JPEGs, MP3, FLV, and SWF.
      • Meeting Recordings that have been moved to the user’s content library. If an account holder has a meeting recording on the current system and would like to access it after the upgrade, the recording must be moved to a content folder before migration.
  • What should I do if I have content that can’t be migrated?
    • Meeting rooms – Any scheduled meetings will need to be re-scheduled on new system. Document permission settings for your meetings. If you have restricted access to only certain users, record the users so that you can reset the meeting permissions in the new Connect system.
    • Captivate files - Content published to Connect from Adobe Captivate will have to be republished by the user after the upgrade.
    • Groups – If you created a user group you will need to create a new one on the new Connect system. Keep a list of the individuals in your group(s) for future reference. Refer to the View/Edit Groups tool on the Connect Manage Account page.
    • Training – Training courses, curricula, reports, and enrollees cannot be migrated to the upgraded service. Courses and curricula will need to be redeveloped in the new Connect service.  Any content (published presentations, meeting rooms, etc.) in your individual User Content Library that is associated with training modules will be migrated if you request it be done.
  • How do I move my Meeting Recordings?
  1. Log in to your Connect account by going to https://breeze5.metnet.edu .
  2. Click on the "My Scheduled Meetings" tab.
  3. Click on the meeting title, then the "Recordings" link at the top.
  4. Check the box to the left of the recording you wish to move and click the Move to Folder button.
  5. Select the destination folder, and then click Move.  The default destination is User Content > your e-mail address.  If you want to select a different destination folder, click the appropriate link under "Or select a different destination folder".
  6. Click OK to finish. The recording will now appear in your Content tab.
  7. Note: Users may want to organize recordings into folders. If the folder has a not yet been created, there is not a way to create one from the "Move to folder" function. First create the folder in the content library. Then go to the "My Scheduled Meetings" Tab and begin moving your meeting recordings.
  8. Set the permission for recording(s) after they are moved. (Go to Content, locate the recording, set permissions, "Allow public viewing" is recommended.)
  • Will my content have the same URL after it is migrated?
No. The URL will reference the new system. Any links to the content on websites, etc. will need to be updated.
    Example:
    Current URL: https://breeze5.metnet.edu/q10599034/
    New URL: https://umconnect.umn.edu/q10599034/

Note: If you have presentations or other content on the current server, it will remain viewable with the old URL until the Connect 6 server is shut down later this year. If you plan to continue to link to content we recommend that content should be migrated to Connect 7.5. At that time users will need to update their links.
However, if your content in Connect 6 isn't being used, you may prefer to start fresh and leave the old content behind.

We recommend that each user log in to Connect 6 and review your content before requesting content migration.

  • How do I access my Content Library?
  1. Log in to your Connect account by going to https://breeze5.metnet.edu
  2. Click on the Content tab.
  3. Click on the content title to see Content information such as permissions, file size, etc.
  • Will I be able to publish content to Connect 7.5?
Yes. Presenter 6 still publishes to Connect 7.5.

  • Will I need a new account to use the new version?
No, if you already have one a METNET Connect account it will be activated on the new server the first time you log in.
  • Why is Connect being upgraded?
    • The upgrade will move us from an older version of Connect to the most current version – Connect 6.0 to Connect 7.5.
    • The upgrade offers useful new functionality including breakout rooms, editable recordings, and offline, downloadable recordings. A more complete list of functions and their descriptions will be on the Connect website in the future.
    • It is also necessary to replace out-of-warranty hardware and to increase disk space, which was reaching its limit. The new equipment is configured to be redundant for fail over and disaster recovery, making it more reliable for users. By partnering with the University of Minnesota we will be able to have a two-node cluster installation.
    • After the upgrade the Connect Training module will be available only by request. This is due to the low usage of the Connect Training module.
